Last COC in Oberwiesenthal before the rebuild cancelled due to breaking track

OBERWIESENTHAL/RASCHAU, 3 March 2013 – on Saturday, 2 March, Slovene Ema Klinec won before Michaela Dolezelova (CZ) and German Juliane Seyfarth. Today however, Sunday, the spring-like temperatures triumphed over the snow on the ski jump: and so, the FIS Continental Cup of the ladies, the last official competition on the Fichtelberg ski jump before its reconstruction, unfortunately had to be cancelled.

In the presence of the sport celebrities of the Ore Mountains as well as sporting and coaching legends such as Jochen Danneberg and Henry Glass, the track did not withstand the meteorological conditions and broke. The test run was started but even before it finished, the organisers had to accept the ineffectiveness of their endeavours – the competition was cancelled.

Peter Riedel, whose company will install a new combined inrun track during the summer (when two tracks are installed in parallel, the switch between winter and summer track is no problem), expressed disappointed about the cancellation of the competition. “We all want to see high-class and fair sport,” said the ski jumping enthusiast, “and I feel particularly sorry for the athletes. But if it is impossible, there is nothing you can do. I can only promise: after the rebuild, many things will be better!”
