20 Days to Go! Summer Grand Prix of the Combiners at the New Fichtelberg Ski Jump

  • “Double-Track-System” by Peter Riedel to become the new inrun track of the ski jump in Oberwiesenthal
  • Less than 3 weeks to go until the Summer Grand Prix of Nordic Combined – it’s a race against time
  • The company Peter Riedel is also involved as sponsor: “It’s a matter of the heart!”

RASCHAU/OBERWIESENTHAL, 4 August 2013 – In less than three weeks, on 24 and 25 August, the world’s elite in Nordic Combined will visit Oberwiesenthal just as they did in the past years on the occasion of the Summer Grand Prix. Meaningful names such as Jason Lamy Chappuis, Magnus Moan, Bernhard Gruber but also the local heroes Eric Frenzel and Björn Kircheisen will compete at the Fichtelberg ski jump and have thrilling inline races in the area of Oberwiesenthal.

But there is one significant difference compared to the past: the Fichtelberg ski jump, which is one of Germany’s highest and one of the most prominent ski jumps, is getting a facelift! Comprehensive modernisation work has been underway for months. Amongst others, a “Double-Track-System” by Peter Riedel will be installed as the new inrun. This way, it is possible to run in on a separate track in winter and summer, and (if the climatic conditions require it) it is possible to switch from one inrun tube to the other without problems. “It is one of our showcase models”, explains company owner Peter Riedel. “Amongst others, it is also used in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and in Trondheim for the ski jumping world cup.”

The work on the Fichtelberg ski jump is running at full speed but it remains a race against time “which we will win”, says Riedel. “However, not all work will be completed which is why we are already contemplating possible provisional solutions with the officials of the WSC Oberwiesenthal, the German Ski Federation and the International Ski Federation. But of course, everything we do focuses on the safety of the athletes and on the premise of creating fair competitions.”

The fact that the company Riedel, as one of the sponsors, supports the event very actively and financially strong shows just how important the Summer Grand Prix in Nordic Combined is to Peter Riedel. “My family and I grew up in Oberwiesenthal. This is my home and the Fichtelberg ski jump is a matter very close to my heart. I will do everything in my power to ensure that the Summer Grand Prix will become a success – for the athletes, the viewers, the organisers, for everybody!”
