The Holmenkollbakken is considered the oldest ski jumping hill in the world and is Oslo's most visited tourist attraction. Inaugurated for the first time in 1892, the jumping hill has been reconstructed 15 times to date, most recently in 2009 before the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships 2011. The most famous ski jumping hill now gets a new in-run track. The Oslo municipality, which takes care of the entire sports complex at Holmenkollen, has opted for the patented track system of Peter Riedel GmbH. The Saxonian company herewith will be equipping this autumn the second World Cup ski jump of the forthcoming World Cup season after the Bergisel in Innsbruck.

“The Holmenkollen is a Norwegian sanctuary; the whole country is looking at it. It is a great honor and responsibility to be able to install the new in-run track on the Olympic ski jumping hill from 1952, and we are fully aware of this responsibility,” Peter Riedel, Managing Director, explains. “After Trondheim and Vikarsund, it is the third World Cup ski jump in Norway, which, thanks to our innovative in-run track, will be able to rely on top quality and stable competition conditions regardless of the weather conditions.”

“There has long been an aspiration for a new track in the in-run at Holmenkollen. The track will give ski jumpers and organizers more equal conditions within an event, in addition to simplifying operations”, says Eli Grimsby, Director, Municipal Undertaking for Cultural and Sports Facilities.

At the beginning of September Peter Riedel GmbH was awarded the contract, the production is completed and the first modules of the track system as well as the new cooling system were already delivered to Holmenkollen. The installation of the new track system has started on ninth of November. This time the Master Track Double is mounted, which is a combined in-run track for ski jumping in winter and summer. No summer ski jumping events took place on Holmenkollen so far, but the new summer track opens up new perspectives.
