When you see him like this, you can hardly believe it. He still carvs down the Fichtelberg like a "youngster", is active in sports and is in top physical and mental shape. It's easy to forget that my father Eberhard is celebrating his 85th birthday this Tuesday!
A family man, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather of three, versatile in sports, always goal-oriented, down-to-earth - these terms probably apply best to my father.
My father has completed quite a few stations in his life. From junior skier to multiple World Cup Winner, from an assistant ski coach to a ski jump coach, from Oberwiesenthal out into the world. The first and only German victory in Kranjska Gora and the first German to win the legendary Adelboden race are still fond memories today.
And that was almost 55 years ago. Unbelieveable how the time goes by! The title of our book "Traces of Success" could not be formulated more appropriately.
Skiing is still an integral part of Dad's life. He is still connected to the Fichtelberg, at the foot of which he still lives today. This was also the case last week when MDR visited him for filming on the occasion of his 85th birthday. He skied down "his" local mountain seven times...
Dad, I wish you all the best for your birthday! I hope you stay fit and vital for many more years to come. And of course skiing down the Fichtelberg many more times!
Your son peter
