The flying carpet?

No: flying ABOVE the carpet!

If there is talk of a new special carpet and if this talk contains words such as “jumping” or “flying”, tales seem to come true.

But the mobile ski jump “K4” by Peter Riedel is everything but a tale. You can experience it at events all over Europe.

“The idea behind this is to wake children’s interest in ski jumping”, says company owner Peter Riedel. “And if the mountain won’t come to Muhammad, Muhammad must go to the mountain - thus, if children don’t come to the ski jumps, the mobile ski jumps will go to the children...”

Schools, kindergartens or event organisers in cities or for work parties are booking the “K4” as a ski jumping highlight for everyone. But there is more. Because the promotion of young talents is a subject which is important to both national and international organisations, the German and the Austrian Ski Federations awarded the mobile ski jump K4 with their certificates. “The TÜV-certification will be carried out in July”, says Riedel, “then, the ski jump can be used for sport and fun with a clear conscience. Safety for ski jumping and quality of production are the most important things for Peter Riedel GmbH and its partner Rehau AG!”

The first appearance of the “K4” will be the Rock AND Run event on 22 July in Warmensteinach, which is used by the German Ski Federation (DSV) as kick-off event for their work with young talents. After that, the “K4” will tour through Europe. In autumn for example, it will be at the closing event of the Four Hills Tournament for Children organised by Rehau Ski-Line Peter Riedel in Berchtesgaden, which has been officially included in the event calendar of the ÖSV (Austrian Ski Federation). In September, Peter Riedel GmbH will have an open house day during which the ski jump can be used by everyone for the first time. This event was developed together with the ski jumping association in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) - which brought forth talents like Richard Freitag and others - and the community Raschau.

While a tour for the promotion of young talents in Romania and Poland is about to be finalised, it is already fixed: the “K4” will be honouring the Four Hills Tournament at the turn of the year in Garmisch-Partenkirchen! A clear sign of how important the youth work is even to the international Ski Federation and its race director Walter Hofer. “Young talents are important for the ski jumping of the future”, Hofer says - a sentence with universal validity but high significance.

Trade mark rights have been requested for the mobile ski jumping system by Peter Riedel GmbH - but that’s not everything. This summer, a special carpet which was developed by clever textile engineers in Saxony is used in the landing area for the first time ever. The carpet consists of special synthetic fibres which, with the right loop technology, could supersede the traditional mat system in the future. Besides ski jumping, the carpet can also be used in alpine ski sport, cross-country skiing, in luge sports and for all types of snowtubing. A few days ago, the carpet was tested successfully on the mobile “K4” as well as on a K9 ski jump in Pöhla (Germany).

It sounds like a tale: just roll out the carpet on the ski jump and fly or jump over it. This is definitely more exciting than simply sitting on it while it flies!
