Eddie the Eagle enthusiastic for the New Years ski jumping

Eddie the Eagle – who hears this name likes to remember back to a time when the Olympic idea was still on top. At least on that audacious British ski jumper, who flew in 1988 in the hearts of the ski jumping fans in Calgary. Nobody reminds of the third, fourth or fifth of that games in Canada, but probably on the last one - Michael Edwards.

It is hardly surprising that the Briton was celebrated on the New Year's competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen as a serial winner. Even today, at a age of 50, all the sympathies are with him. And he wants to use it mainly to promote ski jumping in his home country. In a long conversation with Peter Riedel on the edge of the New Year's competition, the two winter sport fans, both were born in the same year in 1963, pursue the same visions and hopes for ski jumping on the island.

How can we encourage young talents in the British ski jumping and ensure that in future Olympic Games, the Britten not only laughed at but respected for their performances? The first impulse is done with the conversation today. Luckily it is also the time of good intentions, because despite Edwards' cult status in his home country it will probably take longer for the Britten until they are fully convinced of these flying ski eagles.

With a few  editions of Ski Jumping Hill book "JUMP! The most beautiful ski jumps in the world", which he received from Peter Riedel, Eddie the Eagle returns home after the Four Hills Tournament being highly motivated. And he can illustrate the critics at least one already impressive: Although the road to a ski jumping nation may be rocky, but no other sports venue impressed as sustainably as a ski jump.
