Oberwiesenthaler ski jump starts operating

-    Preparation of the landing area was delayed
-    First test jumps right in time before Christmas
-    Modernization of the ski jump will continue in spring

RASCHAU/OBERWIESENTHAL – Right in time for Christmas, the ski jump facilities at Fichtelberg went into operation this week finally. Already at the end of October was the inrun track system set up by the Peter Riedel GmbH completed and covered by an ice track, but problems with the landing area delayed the commissioning.

Not only the quite mild weather made it difficult for the Oberwiesenthaler, also the loss of separated snow nets delayed a lively jumping in Oberwiesenthal.

Many hard working helpers have worked in the last two weeks that the ski jumpers and Nordic combined are able to complete the desired test and training jumps before the Christmas holidays. Since Tuesday evening the preparations are finished thanks to the energetic help of many volunteers, today the first test jumps are scheduled.

Oberwiesenthaler and Klingenthaler athletes are using the conditions on the ground to train for the first time on the new ice track of the ski jump today. Although the handover of the inrun tracks to the town took already place on 21st of November, the ski jumping facility has not fully completed yet: Only in the spring the project should be fully completed after the snow melt in order to be prepared in time for the Grand Prix of the Nordic Combined which is expected in summer in Oberwiesenthal on one of the most modern ski jumps.

For now the focus is directed to the winter, and with the new ski jumping facility we have given first class training conditions for the Saxons local heroes such as Eric Frenzel and Richard Freitag for the first time.

The best possible preparation for Sochi certainly a not negligible.
