Riedel’s blades cut ice also in Trondheim!

TRONDHEIM/RASCHAU, 15 March 2013 – What a competition a few days ago in Trondheim! Hardly beatable in terms of tension, with a worthy winner, Kamil Stoch from Poland, before Richard Freitag from Deutschland and last year’s winner Daiki Ito from Japan.

And the speeds reached by the athletes in the in-run track?! With ideal weather conditions, Manuel Fettner (AUT), Andreas Wank (GER) and Anders Bardal (NOR), all took off at 94.5 km/h from gate 11 – last year the maximum speed was 91.07 km/h from gate 10. A distance between the gates of about 50 centimetres implies a difference (in consideration of the thrust of the ski jumpers at the bar) of about 0.2 m/s. This resulted in an overall increase in take-off speed of 3.5 km/h – that’s a new record!

This new, remarkable record has come about thanks to the new ice-treatment technologies, particularly the ice-cutting blades manufactured by Peter Riedel GmbH.

The excellence of these blades was shown during the New Year’s ski-jump competition and contributed to the fact that a German Cup competition at the great Olympic ski-jump ramp a few days after the jumping tournament resulted in a success in spite of the continuous rain. The adverse weather conditions affected neither the athletes, nor the assistants, the in-run track (which is particularly affected by rain!) or the take-off bounce at the very least and so two good and fair athletic rounds could be completed.
At the New Year’s ski-jumping competition at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Italian Sandro Sambugaro was Technical Delegate (TD) of the International Ski Federation, and he expressed Peter Riedel his desire to see the new ice-treatment technologies in use in Trondheim– where he newly acted as FIS-TD.

Said and done. Owing to the excellent relations between the organizers in Trondheim and Peter Riedel GmbH – the ski-jump ramp in Trondheim was in 2008 the first World Cup project of the company based in the Ore Mountains – the new ice-cutting blades were already several years ago successfully installed and tested at the ski-jump ramp.

“It is important for us to develop products that provide increased security and fair conditions for all athletes“, said the company owner Peter Riedel regarding the successful application of the new technologies in Trondheim. “I’m very pleased that our blades cut the ice even in Norway! Since they passed new fire baptisms in extreme conditions, we know that we can count on them and that we can build further on them. “

“Congratulations to Kamil Stoch – this winter, he has established himself as one of the big names“, Peter Riedel said further. “Our personal victory, however, will be when Frank Skovland, the ski-jump ramp operator of the municipality of Trondheim, tells us via SMS that all his employees are extremely satisfied with the tools which have been installed, that the jumpers find the new ice structure first class and that it has been recognized to be the same as in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. And we will continue to work hard in order to always offer the best possible technologies!"
