RASCHAU/JAPAN - The winter sport world looks currently eastward  – because in exactly two months time the 23th Olympic Winter Games in Sotschi starting. But not only there is being built day and night the further East gets prepared for winter sport, too: In Japan - Zao and Sapporo - were handed over three new ski jumping facilities this week, right in time before Christmas time. If the ski jumps, equipped with inrun tracks of Peter Riedel GmbH, satisfy the high demands of  the Ski World Association (FIS), managing director Peter Riedel has convinced himself this week.

During a visit on location Riedel was pleased with the development in Japan: „We have finished here in the land of the rising sun in the last two years a total of four jump projects – this shows of course, that Japan is on a rise when it comes to ski jumping. The second ski jump in Sapporo, the Miyanomori-ski jump will be finished only in January 2014 but with the Okurayama-ski jump and the Zao-ski jump we could pass over already two first class ski jumps. Our specialist have completed all the work and since one week the inrun tracks lie on ice", so Riedel.

It is, however, clear to the Japanes ski jumping director Chiharu Saito that it would be difficult for Japan without this development to align competitions at the highest level and continuously to jump on top of the world class.  „To us it is the proverbial beginning of a new era. It is very important for us that we have finally introduced the European Standard on our ski jumps - so makes the Japanese ski jumping a quantum leap!" said the FIS member after handing over the jumps.

In the upcoming weeks before the new year, the Japanese want to complete their first test jumps.  It is time because already on the 11th of January 2014 the ski jump in Sapporo will have its first peak when the ski jump World Cup of the Ladies takes place on site. While the ladies are going to travel to Zao one week later, the men guesting on the 18th of January in Sapporo - busy times for the Japanese.  But at least they know: the material is right.
