For almost two years now, a different kind of winter sports monument has graced the townscape of Tellerhäuser in the Ore Mountains. A 3.7 meter high snowman out of stainless steel, lovingly made by the Peter Riedel GmbH. Consisting of three finest stainless steel balls with a diameter of 1.7 meters and a weight of 500 kilos, it guided hikers and visitors the way to the hiking and cross-country skiing area on the Fichtelberg and to Gottesgab (Czech Bozi Dar) in the Czech Republic all year round. But now the “Colossus” made of stainless steel got a new home. Today, dressed lightly with a scarf, he took his new place at Cafe König in the middle of Oberwiesenthal. With these dimensions and weight, this was not an easy procedure, a truck and a crane were required. But the new location in Oberwiesenthal at Cafe König at the „Poststrasse“, which is the direct access from the train station to the ski area, is ideal for attracting attention. The owner of Cafe König, Frank Weber, and Peter Riedel have a long friendship.

“We dismantled it in Tellerhäuser already back in August and equipped him with two polished arms and a welcome sign. It is important to me that it has now found its new place in my hometown, where I spent most of my childhood. I have known Frank for a long time and have already implemented some steel construction things for him. I am happy that the snowman has now found a new place in front of Frank’s cafe. It embodies the longing for winter sports in Oberwiesenthal and should bring joy to visitors, tourists and the people all year round. It reminds us of how they built a snowman in the past, I am sure that many people have forgotten that“, enthuses Peter Riedel wistfully when the truck with the snowman left his yard.
