A story full of passion, dedication, and unforgettable moments. For this very reason, my father, Eberhard Riedel, would like to take this opportunity to celebrate everyone involved. He would like to express his sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed back then and who still has a passion for alpine skiing today. THANK YOU for everything we achieved together at Fichtelberg for our town of Oberwiesenthal – something that had never been done before!
Even though times were difficult back then, and the founding of the GDR severely slowed alpine development, the early days of alpine skiing in the 1960s laid the foundation for the rapid development of the elite sports movement in Oberwiesenthal!
To mark this occasion, we would like to celebrate an exclusive evening of remembrance, recognition, and community. In cooperation with our very good friend Frank Weber from Cafe König, where the celebrations will take place, we are pleased to welcome a select group of 50 people who will revive the alpine tradition of the Fichtelberg.
In addition to the Alpine protagonists of the past (Eberhard Riedel, Ernst Scherzer, Peter Lützendorf, Helmut Heym), the mayor of Lauter, Thomas Kunzmann, and almost all of the invited guests have confirmed their attendance. The event will be hosted by none other than the renowned MDR sports reporter Michael Drevenstedt, who will lead the audience through various program items. The invited guests will be taken on a journey through alpine history in the town of Oberwiesenthal and can look forward to an entertaining evening.
The timing for the event couldn't be better, as the Alpine Ski World Cup opens the season on the very same weekend, a few hundred kilometers further south in Sölden… the perfect conditions for a successful event!
We look forward to it!
